Here in Bath, we are so lucky to have such a vibrant and bustling city centre with smaller high streets around the city. Our strong economic plan has ensured that businesses can thrive and create jobs here in Bath. With a mixture of independent shops and well-known brands – Bath offers a great shopping experience for local people and tourists alike.
However, we need to ensure that we keep on investing in our high streets to protect them for the future. Therefore, when I met with Tim Bowles, The Mayor of the West of England, I was pleased to work with him to gain a share of £3 million for B&NES highstreets where over half of this money will go directly to Bath itself. This money will allow us to bring our high street into the 21st century whist protecting its culture and history which its ultimately what makes Bath the destination for shopping that it is today.
Along side this, I will campaign to ensure that historic Bath shops are given the best possible support to continue trading on our high streets. To do this, I will stand up for independent businesses and do everything I can to keep business rates low and taxes as small as possible.
